Only recently I started blogging in English. I am getting good number of hits everyday in my tamil blog Kirukalkal, thanks to www.thamizmanam.com and Kasi.

But I could not get enough no of hits here and my formula1 blog. Today I did some research to get my blog into Search Engine results. I found out that, increasing the traffic alone is not just enough to improve our performance in Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN..

Here I share some of the points I got in my research......Hope it will help you...

1) When your blog is linked by many others, your weightage (given by Search Engines) increases...
So a blog with less hits than you, but got many referrals means they score you out....
Dont be hesitant to request your friends and relatives to put a link for you....

2) Effective use of meta tags... Meta tags should be effectively utilised. But these days Search Engines like google, analyse your posts also....

3) And last but not least, advertise your site well and increase the hits.

Writing Tips for Your Website

Writing Tips for Your Website
by: Jennifer Ryan

Now that your website is up and running, it's time to add content. Fresh content will make your site interesting and keep people (and search engine crawlers) coming back. In order to achieve optimal web success, your site must be informative, relevant and written the way that people read the web. Here's a few tips to get you started.

Get to the point--FAST. Just ask internet usability consultant Jakob Nielsen. People don't read the web, they scan. It's not like print, where you can meander your way to the point. Online, you have but a nanosecond to prove you're legit. Nielsen says to use the "inverted pyramid method.” for web content. Tell the point first, get to the supporting info afterwards.

Find your inner voice. We want to hear you on your website, not a text book or someone else. Get in touch with your real-live human "voice." Hello? Is anybody there? Show us your humanity so we can relate to you. Don't publish anything that you haven't completely written researched or re-worked. Posting text to your website that's meant for the printed page is a no-no. People won't read it, and worse, they'll make bad faces at you.

Use the least amount of words for what you have to say. Listen, you're not going to impress us by using big technical words. In fact, when you use words we don't understand--I must say--you look stupid. Why? It's easier to write a story with 3000 words than it is to write the same story in 300. It takes more thought, more planning, more time to extract away the excess. Therefore, the writer who uses less words to convey to same message is clearly the winner.

Write to a person, not a group. When you are writing web content especially, write to a person. Pretend like that person is sitting right in front of you and write conversationally. When you write to a person, it draws the reader in and makes you look more human. It's good for connecting and bonding with your reader.

Don't talk down to your readers. Though it's true that most of your readers will be reading at the 9th grade level, and your content should be written accordingly, resist the urge to talk down to your audience. Humble yourself. And certainly don't try to appear more knowledgeable with shop talk. If you don't know what your writing about, research it more. Otherwise, your lack of knowledge will be transparent even to a 9th grader.

Use small words with the least amount of syllables. This is a basic web content premise. The fewer syllables that you use, the less your web reader has to think to digest your information. Try not to make your user think. Spoon feed the information in the cleanest manner possible so they get your meaning with the least amount of distractions. Don't say "successfully" when "well" will do. As with every rule, there are exceptions.

Do not underline to make a point. Underlined words are It is a convention on the web that underlined words are links. It is irritating to click an underlined word when you think it is a link. Do everything possible to keep your visitors from being irritated, and to keep yourself from looking--well let's just say, from looking like you don't know. Don't underline anything unless it is a link. Use bold to accentuate your main points instead.

The tips above are by no means exhaustive. There are gazillions of techniques and writing tricks that foster online success. Wise is the web marketer who understands that marketing your business online is a process that can always improve, just like direct sales. Get these guidelines under your belt and you’ll be a step closer to winning clients, customers and respect online.

You may reprint this article in its entirety in any media. Today weather was so nice and sunny. Myself along with 3 other Indian friends went to visit Sachsen Switzerland (Königstein) which is 45 minutes journey from Dresden.

In Königstein, there are 2 hills for trekking. The hill Lictenstein takes 3 hours to reach the top. But today we decided to go to Königstein, the other hill which just takes 45 minutes to reach top. Also there is a Kastle (Fort) on the top of the hill. The other reason to choose this was, we have never visited this museum.

River Elbe just passes through Königstein and Lichtenstein. Everything you eat is savored in garlic, onion and tomatoes.

2. You try and reuse gift wrappers, gift boxes, and of course aluminum foil.

3. You try to eject food particles from between your teeth by pressing your tongue against them and making a peculiar noise like, tshick, tshick, tschick, tschick.

4. You are standing next to the two largest size suitcases at the Airport.

5. You arrive one or two hours late to a party - and think it's normal.

6. You peel the stamps off letters that the Postal Service missed to mark up.

7. You recycle Wedding Gifts.

8. You name your children in rhythms (example, Sita & Gita, Ram & Shyam, Kamini & Shamini.)

9. All your children have pet names, which sound nowhere close to their real names.

10. Yesterday I had one more chance to taste it. In Germany, if you own TV or radio set, you have to pay tax every month. Thats infact not tax, some kind of money you have to pay to keep the government channel and other cultural channel up. These channels run without any advertisements. I happen to know this very late. And I paid for last 6 months. The lady who came to collect money told that, being a student I am eligible for exemption. I was asked to register at Sozialamt (a govt. agency) for exemption.

It was a 40 minutes journey to Sozialamt from my place. Only after going there, they informed me that Sozialamt for Oldcity (where I live) is in another place. That place is actually a Ortsamt. Again another 20 minutes of travel. At last I found the room where I have to register. There was a big queue. Old lady there was calling one by one. She was not friendly. I can see in her face. Everytime she came out to call next person, she was looking at me strange.

An hour gone waiting at the door. At last my turn. Spoke with her in my broken german. She asked my passport and visa. After scrutinising my visa for a minute, she told I am not eligible. She simply told read your visa. She was not at all explaining. I was thinking to ask, the other lady told I am eligible. Before I ask, she went up and opened the door. This is not the first time here, I have seen people like this hating foreigners.

Now I was confused much. Whom to believe?. Sozialamt says I am not eligible. Tax Collector says I am eligible. Finally I decided to go to foreign office in University. That was another 40 minutes journey for me. As new admissions are going on, they told I will not be able to meet the consultant there. But if I come in the evening 3'o clock I can meet another lady who is not well off with the laws. I went home. Note its another 30 minutes journey.

Finally I decided to try my last opportunity. I reached foreign office in University at 2.50. I could get only a token of 17. I decided not to wait for this lady. As new international students were coming, there were lot of Student Assitants moving here and there to help new comers. I approached one of them and I explained my situation. He was very helpful. He took my Passport and in a break he got information from main consultant there. It was unfortunate news that I am not eligible for that exemption. The whole day gone useless.

This doesn't happen everywhere. Still you can expect it for you anytime in Germany. So just be ready to accept this reality and dont get surprised by this here.

Internet Telephony - Skype and picophone

Until a year ago, I was using only yahoo messenger for voice chat over internet. Its voice quality is not reliable. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. Also it was something like one way communication. When both parties are speaking it makes up a mesh.

Then one of my friend told me about the free internet telephony application, pico phone which is ip based. It worked very nice and voice quality was wonderful. Only disadvantage is it doesnt has any features to store friends list and also everytime you have to type the ip address. This is really troublesome, if the party uses dialup connection.

Now I use the skype internet telephone. Its wonderful. It has all facilities like yahoo messenger. But still voice clarity is unthinkable even if I call to remote villages in TamilNadu, India from Germany. They also provide pc to phone for which you have to pay. PC to phone is also available through terracall which I think is cheaper than skype. I use terracall only.

Fuck my flat mate

Time around 12 PM. I just went into bed. I heard 3 voices. 1 Indian and 2 Pakistani speaking Hindi and Urdu. Those who dont know how to use Hindi and Urdu interchangable, they are one and the same. They are spoken same way. But Urdu is written in Arabic charactes. All voices slowly moved into the kitchen which lies just besides my room.

They were cooking for more than 30 minutes. Disturbing me all the time. I lost my sleep for 2 hours. Fuck man.
